What a wank!

Did anyone really think that this vote would have been any different on a linux blogg?

It is truly amazing how you guys let this totally biased bit of propaganda float your boat.

The only thing that surprises me is that Windows came third. What happened there? Windows came in way ahead of the Mac, something must have gone wrong. Obviously, some of those that voted need to be ostracised.

It does speak volumes for Windows though. Even here, amongst self confessed Windows haters, what am I saying? amongst rabid Windows haters, where mentioning Microsoft generally gets expressions of hatred with such fervour that any reasonable person would find inmpossible to believe, it still came third. I think that is the most significant thing about these results and shows just how strong Windows really is.

In reality, I think all that this result means is that 91% of this blogs readers are linux devotees, 4% are BSD advocates, 3% are Windows users etc. and nothing more but I can understand why linux users need these sorts of validation, no matter how false the results are and I hate to spoil it for you but just remember that those people that do real surveys, put you guys at about 1%, not 91%.

I see the wooden spoon is coming out in full force here Smile Where do you get your statistics? Can you quote sources or is it just a stinking hole?

What about this one taken in February 2010

And I apologise, it's 0.98% not 1% as I said:)

And they are running windows software and have microsoft as their client. Hmmm what does my other blog say about statistics?

What difference does it make.

Gary O Connor's picture

What difference does it make if they run Windows software? Your other blog has Windows(Microsoft) as a client quite often? Does that mean it is biased towards Microsoft?

You guys will only ever believe anything that says linux is doing well and, if it doesn't, you can always work out some way to blame Microsoft for the bad report.

Anyway I suppoe Microsoft have some sort of control over this one because it has linux even lower. I didn't pick this one, or the other one, for any reason other than they were the first two that came up.

What about this one, it's really friendly to linux, it says that linux has 1.2%!!!!! Wow!!!

I have an idea......find me a legitimate survey that has linux where you think it should beSmile

Gary O'Connor

You and I both know that that

Locutus's picture

You and I both know that that is not possible because it is currently not possible to accurately count the number of Linux installations as I wrote in my other article.

So what can we use.

Gary O Connor's picture

In the world of business you can only quote things that are accepted as real. If you can't present the facts, they don't exist.

Just because you think you know there are more linux installations than the surveys show doesn't mean a thing.

I couldn't go into a business meeting and say, I want an extra $50,000 to develop this programme for linux because Locutus says the surveys are all wrong and there really are closer to 7% linux desktop installations rather than the 1% shown in the surveys.

You have to have hard facts and acceptable hard facts. If you can present three or four different surveys that all show around the same figures you will have a chance. If those figures are all equally as bad, you'll have no chance. The business world is not that interested in guesses, especially when the guesses are inspired by people with a 'perceived' bias that may make them want to inflate the figures.

So, in the real world, there are only 1% of desktops with linux. 'Guesstimations' don't count.

Linux is an operating system, Windows is an employment project ...

So true. If windows went

So true. If windows went down, entire industries would go down with it.
