For a single player a whole country is banned?

As I have mentioned in a few of my other posts at ITtoolbox I really enjoy a game of Tremulous every now and then. Due to external and internal factors I have not played the game for quite a while. It was mentioned to me that certain people were missing me and that started nostalgic feelings about Tremulous. So I downloaded and installed the game for a bit of kick ass action.

I had no problems with the game. Everything started and worked properly. Except for one problem. I could not receive a list of servers from the internet. I started searching around and trying this and that to no avail. Time ran out on me (since when did time have legs?) so I vowed to have a look at it another day.

Well that day has come. The girls are away and I am living the bachelor lifestyle for a couple of days Tongue out. I decided to give Tremulous another go. Again I had the same problem. I couldn't even contact their game server. I suspected that there was something wrong with my machine. Which was strange because everything else worked fine. To make sure I used a site for testing web addresses and found that it worked perfectly.

As this site worked from a different country I started to suspect that it was a problem related to Turkey. To find more information I adjusted my google search to look for information regarding Tremulous and Turkey. Lo and behold I did actually manage to find the reason I couldn't join one of my favourite games.

Even though I found the google entry relating to my, actually Turkey's problem, that same problem effected me being able to access that site. Luckily I was able to access that sit with googles cached web page. Sometimes I just want to hug and squeeze google until it grunts and make involuntary raspberry noises from its rear end.

The web site in question? The mercenariesguild and the cached page containing the relevent information can be seen here. Apparently a single player from Turkey upset a single person from I don't know what country and as a result this person decided to ban the whole country!

Where does this person get the idea that they have the right to ban a complete country? Just because a single person out of millions of people pissed them off? What sort of over inflated ego do they have to warrent that sort of immature and thoughtless action? If they wanted to ban a single person then all they had to do was to ban a single IP address. If that person changed ip addresses then there are other ways of banning them. There is no need to ban a whole country in my very  humble opinion. This person should be ashamed of themselves.

What do you think? Do the actions of a single person warrent a complete country ban? Does anyone have the right to arbitrarily ban around a hundred million people simply because they had their nose put out of joint? Should this sort of dictator like actions be allowed on the internet? You decide and let me know, one day it could happen to you.

Just FYI the ban has been

Just FYI the ban has been lifted. I can now get a list of servers and play Tremulous again. Thank you to all those people who stuck up for their and others rights.

Someone should add this to wikipedia and spread the word. What they have done is ridiculous. They say the game is free and just do the opposite. hypocrisy!

I don't think that wikipedia is the right place. It can be too easily deleted. It should be mentioned on all Tremulous forums though.

As I am not a member of the forum mentioned in my last comment I could not reply to some thoughtless twat who commented there. So I am replying here.

To Atomican Primarch, who said that Turkey is not a country.

Tell that to the ANZAC's! Those brave people who gave their life on Turkey's shores and whom many are still resting there. I can only hope you are not Australian. I would hate to be ashamed of my own countrymen.

Speaking of countries, the country where I was born and raised picked up this story in a forum on a web site called Atomic. They have some interesting comments there. One person particularly tickled my funny bone. In answer to that comment. I was a nerd at school, I am a nerd now and I make my living off of my nerdiness Smile.
